Nature in my Backyard!

Cedar Trail – Rouge Park

What’s the deal with this Y-not NIMBY thing?

It all started when a few people interested in participating in a project called Camp Suzuki in the Rouge got together as part of the Green Team at the YMCA of Greater Toronto. At the heart of this was a shared love of the natural systems we live in (in our own backyards). It turns out that there’s a whole lot more nature around us than we may think at first. That’s where the question came into mind … Why isn’t there more understanding of the nature we have in our own back yards. Plants that clean our air, and filter the water run off. Edible plants. Medicinal plants…

Y-not Nature in My Backyard?!

Our goal is to share new perspectives of nature – the benefit it offers to our health, and the many roles it plays in our every day living. The common thought throughout our planning was pivoting on creating a growing awareness by engaging people to engage people to engage people… (you get it) and help spread appreciation, respect, and admiration of the environment. It has a funny way of spilling over into our communities, and our society, so helping nature ends up helping ourselves. By providing healthy activities for our youth and families we help create a Strong Start for a Great Future.
